Dam Kalin

 Bulgaria has the highest dam on the Balcan Peninsula and it is the "Kalin" dam. It is located at 2394 m above the sea level in Rila mountain. The dam was built by the Bulgarian private company "Granitoid" for the period from 1943 to 1946 year. At the altitude at which the dam was built there is snow from the end of September to the end of June. The area where the dam is located is to be reached by a scenic road starting from village Pastra and overcoming about 1700 m of elevation gain. This is an extremely difficult hydro facility and we, bulgarians must be proud of. Tourists hut "Ivan Vazov" is located near by. Nature and fresh air are delightful and attract many tourists.
